Did you know there are numerous legends behind how this Italian staple originated? Our personal favourite, though, has to do with widespread belief that dates back to 1890:
A chef from ‘Napoli’ was said to have invented a dish called “pizza Margherita” in honour of the Queen of Italy–Margherita of Savoy–and the Italian unification. Since tomatoes are red, mozzarella, white, and basil, green, the newly invented dish patriotically represented the colours of the flag of Italy . . . Clever, right?
Regardless of how it all started, any way you slice it, pizza, as we know it today, was first developed in Naples when tomato was added to otherwise dry breads such as focaccia to make them more flavourful–hence “Neapolitan pizza” was born. But what better way to honour your own visit to the area than by learning how to make authentic pizza under the tutelage of Italian chefs?
Looking like a pro in one of our specially designed Gourmet Girls’ aprons, under the expert guidance of a genuine pizzaiolo (pizza maker) you will learn to knead and toss dough to create the perfect pizza.
An enormously fun experience for all the family, as well ideal for group events such as bachelorette or birthday parties, adults and kids alike will absolutely delight in the unique opportunity to “take the heat” in an Italia cucina.
